"The Huntsman", is intended first and foremost as an homage to James Christensen, a brilliant artist, author and long time inspiration of mine. Secondly it is meant as a quirky tribute to the questing nature of the human mind. True to Christensen's form I've riddled "Huntsman" with a myriad of iconographic imagery. The egg and bird skull represent the paltry span of time, between birth and death, we have to learn and grow and hopefully contribute to the advancement of our race. The telescope is a symbol of our never ending, ever growing, search for truth through knowledge and understanding. The candles represent our desire for enlightenment. The empty journal is a manifestation of our potential for growth and the snail? I put that in to remind myself not to take so damned long painting these things. |
