This was the first of a series of images I did while experimenting with painting in greyscale. Up until this point I had always done my black and white work using a pencil and though I had become quite proficient at rendering shapes it was a time consuming process and since black and white usually pays far less than color, it was also not really worth the effort. In an attempt to rectify the pay to time conundrum I started doing my black and white work in the computer much the same way I was doing color. Ultimately I went back to the pencil as I found that though the drawing, (or painting if you will.) went a lot faster the images seemed to lose a certain spark that the pencil versions had.
This picture, for me, also represents the classic statement, "It worked better in theory." In retrospect I wish I had reversed the entire shot so that we are in the airlock with the frogman and the bubble window was behind him. Ah well, next time. |
