I've always had an over active imagination. As a kid I can remember the almost nightly struggle to fall asleep amidst the monsters formed from shapeless lumps of clothes, the toys scattered across the floor and even today I'm not comfortable unless partially covered with the bed-sheets, (A habit I've subsequently started calling, "putting on my monster armor"). Mr. Fox is my Boogey Man personified. His face swathed in bandages to cover his horrible visage, he emerges from attics and woods rarely traveled to rap and scratch with twisted claw at my window sill and closet door until the morning light sends his emaciated form back to the secret places from whence he came. As I remember it the original order called for a guy with a fox's head, (Hence his nom de plume.) but when I sat down to doodle him out, Mr. Fox, time and again, kept reverting back to this twisted nightmare and so I eventually just left him. Ultimately I'm glad I did as not only did the art director love him but now I can also chalk yet another of my personal demons, imprisoned in paper and graphite.
