I did this one as another study in distortion and tension. After completing it I got the notion to go back in and add the guy's hand holding a horseshoe magnet under the straight pin.
On a completely unrelated note, when I was constructing this page I accidentally put the title bar "Vow of Silence" instead of "Needle". As I caught my mistake I also realized that I had unwittingly changed the entire direction of this piece from just a study in tension to a freakish play on the childhood promise, "Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye." Which THEN led me to realize that it's not a needle but actually a straight pin. I ended up keeping the title, "Needle" anyway. I think it just worked better. |
