I think it's safe to say that illustrators, in general, tend to excel in certain areas of drawing and inversely, fully suck in others. It's just a fact of life, we can't be good at everything. For me, I can do figures with relative ease, yet, time and again, I am totally lost when confronted with the simple act of putting in a background. This illustration was done for the collectable card game "Dune" and as you can plainly see I blew all my chips creating a moving and emotional figure and yet the background is just a hackneyed mess of Photoshop filter tricks. Maybe someday I'll get the inclination to go back in there and give this poor guy a properly painted background. As they say, "Live and learn." |
